WorkSpace iQ finds a place on G-Cloud 5 to help cut government desktop maintenance bills

Centrix Software has joined CloudStore, the government-approved supplier store within the G-Cloud 5 framework for delivering cloud adoption across the public sector.

Through ‘Lot 3’ of the G-Cloud programme, Centrix will be touting its WorkSpace iQ usage analytics software as a service (SaaS) application for adoption by local and central government departments.

Government cuts

According to its own research, Centrix has deduced that the average annual cost of running a central government desktop PC is over £1,500. By understanding application usage and rationalising accordingly using WorkSpace iQ, up to £400 per PC could be saved, the company claimed.

Lisa Hammond, Centrix Software co-founder and CEOLisa Hammond (pictured), Centrix Software’s co-founder and CEO, commented, “G-Cloud 5 is an emerging but very important framework and we’re proud to be part of the Government’s drive to transform the delivery of its IT. With more UK SMEs joining G-Cloud, it may help the Government live up to its pledge to spend 25 per cent of its budget with UK SMEs by 2015.”

G-Cloud programme acceptance will allow Centrix to be considered as a supplier of key cloud implementation components within the framework. This will allow the company to continue building relationships with UK public sector organisations, as the government attempts to transform public sector IT and service delivery.

The Cabinet Office has stated that CloudStore will aid public sector bodies to offer better value by avoiding the long contracts that bedevilled them before. Further benefits will be accrued, it believes, because departments will be able to buy the exact amount of computing resources they need and save money on maintenance and physical storage. It will also reduce the need to commission expensive custom-built applications which are difficult to maintain and upgrade, take a long time to create, and often do not deliver the value originally calculated.
