£50 Million ICT Contract Up For Tender At West Herts NHS Trust

West Hertfordshire NHS Trust has put a contract out to tender to run ICT infrastructure services as part of its strategy to create a “digital hospital environment”.

The tender is worth between £30 million and £50 million and will last five years, with options to extend it up to seven years. According to the tender’s terms, the strategy will “exploit new technology to support agile working, eliminate paper, enable service transformation, reduce administrative overheads and improve patient experience”.

Health serviced

The proposed deal will see the winning bidder provide desktops, laptops and other end-user devices, data networks, storage, unified communications, video conferencing, telephony, printing, service desk services, hosting and other support services.

Around 3,950 full-time employees across three main sites (Watford General Hospital, Hemel Hempstead Hospital and St Albans City Hospital) and one satellite site will be supported by the service.

The Trust is accepting bids from suppliers or consortia. As well as meeting technical criteria, bidders with be required to show turnovers of at least £37 million per year in relation to ICT infrastructure service for the last three financial years.

West Herts NHS said, “Bidders will be aware of the continuing changes that are occurring both in technology, and within the NHS at large… The services may be extended under this contract either during the procurement process itself, or during the term of the contract under change control procedures.

“”The Trust may wish to extend, during the term of the contract, the ICT Infrastructure Services to cover potential clinical or information systems, business applications, integration and portals and digital service user engagement, such as telehealth.”
