Sage customers hit by internal data breach, police called in

Accountancy software firm Sage has brought in police after discovering the business data of almost 300 UK customers has been breached using an internal login.

The company has also notified the Information Commissioner’s Office who is also now investigating the breach.

The majority of Sage’s customers use on-premise versions of the company’s various financial reporting products, but like most major software firms Sage has recently seen a higher uptake in its cloud-based on-demand software products.

Sage’s army of software resellers sell both on-premise and cloud versions of the firm’s products.

Sage said of the breach: “We believe there has been some unauthorised access using an internal login to the data of a small number of our UK customers, so we are working closely with the authorities to investigate the situation.

“Our customers are always our first priority so we are communicating directly with those who may be affected and giving guidance on measures they can take to protect their security.”

It added: “If you have any concerns at all, you can reach us on the following contact details: The dedicated helpline number is 0845 145 3345 – please leave a message with your details and we will get back to you as soon as we can. You can also get in touch with us by email at customercontact@sage.com.”
