Nucleus Research has released the 2019 Control Tower Value Matrix, an assessment of the control tower software market based on the value customers realize from the product usability and functionality that control tower vendors are currently delivering with their solutions.

Control Tower Value Matrix Leaders include: E2open, JDA Software, Kinaxis and One Network.

In recent years, control tower software has expanded to include data and modeling of multiple tiers of suppliers, logistics providers, and partners. Despite vendors looking to provide more automation and orchestration across multiple tiers of the supply chain, many customers are limited in their usage of the advanced technologies that control towers deliver. Leading vendors are leveraging machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms that can review historical performance data and the larger contextual picture when exceptions arise.

“Control tower software has evolved into a powerful tool for supply chain management,” said Ian Campbell, CEO of Nucleus Research. “However, this technology is often more advanced than what the customer can implement effectively, so the market has room to grow as customers become more accustomed to organized and centralized systems.”

“Customers are demanding greater visibility of their extended value chains,” said Seth Lippincott, Director of Research at Nucleus Research. “Control towers will remain an area of supply chain technology to watch, as it often serves as a useful entry point for vendors that offer extended functionality in planning and execution.”

The Nucleus Control Tower Value Matrix measures the ability of control tower vendors to deliver value in usability and functionality and are placed into four categories: Leaders, Experts, Facilitators, and Core Providers. Customers can use the Matrices to evaluate vendor short lists as well as to make the case for maintaining existing applications.
