Baffle, Inc. today debuted Baffle Data-Centric File Protection, the first service that secures sensitive data inside files that companies are leveraging for business intelligence and analytics. Baffle Data-Centric File Protection protects personally identifiable information (PII) or other sensitive information inside source data files to enable anonymized or de-identified analytics for companies looking to derive intelligence from their data. This protects source data as it lives inside cloud services such as Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) and as it is ingested into data warehousing and analytics solutions such as Snowflake’s Cloud Data Platform, Amazon Redshift, Microsoft® Azure Data Lake and other analytics environments. This approach facilitates privacy-preserving analytics allowing companies to securely share and monetize data in an environment of increased privacy regulation.

The modern enterprise utilizes a complex web of distributed data, information pipelining, and sharing across organizations. Baffle Data-Centric File Protection encrypts, tokenizes, anonymizes or de-identifies data to prevent data leakage while allowing organizations to continue to process data in the face of increasingly stringent privacy laws. The solution is sold as an enhancement to Baffle’s Advanced Data Protection.
Baffle Data-Centric File Protection will be generally available in the first quarter of 2020.
“Security and privacy requirements are increasingly complex and challenging for companies to implement without slowing down,” said Ameesh Divatia, CEO and co-founder, Baffle, Inc. “Businesses and consumers should not have to compromise between security and their ability to interpret data and deliver enhanced products and services. With Baffle Data-Centric File Protection, we’re extending our award-winning, data-centric protection service to secure the most sensitive information as it’s processed through the data pipeline and consumed by popular tools, including Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, Athena and Hadoop.”
The announcement comes on the heels of Baffle’s release of Dynamic Data Masking and Exfiltration Control, Baffle Cloud Data Protection Platform for Amazon Web Services and its inclusion in the AWS Database Partner Ready program.
“Object storage systems, such as Amazon S3, require retention of massive amounts of unstructured data,” said Garrett Bekker, principal analyst, information security practice at 451 Research. “As these systems grow in popularity within business workflows, enterprises will need to focus on not just access control policies, but also methods that ensure the privacy and security of their data in a distributed environment.”
