Belden and Anixter Unveil Infrastructure Assurance Solution for Next-Generation Buildings

Belden Inc., a global leader in signal transmission solutions for mission-critical applications, is excited to announce that it has been selected by Anixter to create cabling and connectivity solutions that align with the global distributor’s Utility Grade INFRASTRUCTURE (UTG) platform to support smart buildings.

Anixter Inc. revealed UTG at IBcon and InfoComm last week. This new technology platform, assurance program and design approach redefines the infrastructure layer to support building subsystems, technologies and applications.

Third-party tested and verified by UL, the UTG program offers UTG-rated cabling solutions from Belden and provides end-users with an infrastructure that unlocks the performance potential of next-generation buildings, maximizing their ROI and enhancing user experiences.

“Connectivity issues impact employee productivity, business profitability and user experience, and these variables are some of the key factors in attracting premium tenants and employees,” says Bill Geary, executive vice president, network and security solutions at Anixter. “According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, the number of connected buildings across the globe is projected to double by 2060. IHS Markit predicts connected devices will reach 75 billion in the next six years, meaning that these spaces must transform to keep up with our reliance on technology.”

Starting on July 15, 2019, Belden will offer a full link and channel UTG product line, including cables, patch panels, jacks, plugs and patch cables. These UTG solutions are interoperable and future-ready to exceed current category cable standards. They support extended transmission distances, higher bandwidth capabilities, 4K streaming, larger bundle sizes for Power over Ethernet (PoE) applications and next-generation WiFi. These solutions will be covered under Belden’s 25-Year Product Warranty.

“We support Anixter’s mission to provide a solution that supports data as the fourth utility,” says Matt Hurst, strategic account manager at Belden. “We see increasing convergence and bandwidth consumption every day. The UTG platform handles the infrastructure challenges found in next-generation buildings, including increased power requirements, longer distances and larger bundle sizes. It can support these applications and provide assurance to end-users that their needs will be met.”
