Today, Bellevue College has launched Tombolo Institute. Formed from the Bellevue College Continuing Education (BCCE) division, Tombolo Institute will offer industry-aligned non-credit courses and programs along with industry-based certifications aligned with specific job roles for those looking to transition into or advance in the business, technology and healthcare fields.

“Local employers are expanding rapidly, and their businesses need employees with skills honed to their specific needs,” said Al Lewis, Vice President of Economic Workforce Development at Bellevue College. “Employers are finding it increasingly difficult to fill the gap and find employees with the requisite skills. We’re committing ourselves to closing that gap through Tombolo.”

According to the January 2019 LinkedIn Workforce Report, the top skills shortages in the Seattle area included business management, data science, leadership and web development. This report, along with other industry trends, prompted BCCE to shift its focus toward giving workforce education a brighter spotlight in a region that needs it.

“The future of work will require employees to continuously learn new skills and knowledge,” said Dr. Jerry Weber, Bellevue College President. “Bellevue College is committed to the success of our students, and our students can then support the workforce needs of our local employers.”

Registration for the inaugural quarter at Tombolo Institute is open. In-person courses will be held in Bellevue College’s North Campus to accommodate working professionals. Many courses can either be taken in the evening or online. Students can browse and register for courses at tomboloinstitute.com.
