Orion Advisor Solutions, the premier provider of the tech-enabled fiduciary framework that empowers financial advisors to Prospect, Plan, Invest, and Achieve within a single, connected experience, announces that Barron’s has recognized the signature fund family of Orion’s investment management brand, Brinker Capital Investments, as one of the strongest performers of 2020. Its Destinations Funds family ranked eighth overall in the Barron’s Best Fund Families of 2020 and second place in the U.S. Equity category. Brinker Capital Investments’ asset managers earned this distinction on the strength of the Destinations Funds’ performance in a year marked by unprecedented volatility and economic upheaval.
The Destinations Funds, a series of 10 multi-manager mutual funds which launched in 2017, have appeared in the top ten of Barron’s Best Fund Families for two of the last three years and made the listing every year since they became eligible for consideration in 2018. Qualifying firms must offer at least three active mutual funds or actively run ETFs in Lipper’s general U.S. stock category; one in world equity; and one mixed-asset. They must also offer at least two taxable bond funds and one national tax-exempt bond fund. All funds must have a track record of at least one year.
“We’re excited to have earned this recognition in 2020 given the volatility in financial markets,” said Amy Magnotta, CFA, Co-Head of Discretionary Portfolios at Brinker Capital Investments. “The Destinations Funds represent our core competencies of a dynamic, multi-asset class investment approach, and I’m grateful to play a part in a fund family that has been so instrumental in guiding investors toward better outcomes.”
Barron’s recognized 53 asset managers in its 2020 list. Brinker Capital’s Destinations Funds shot to eighth place overall this year based on a far-sighted and assertive response to COVID-era market conditions. Fund managers executed six reallocations in 2020, double their usual rate of activity, and communicated frequently during the crucial February to April period to pinpoint dislocations and opportunities.
“2020 was a trial by fire for all of us, and I’m proud of our team for rising to the challenge and showing what active fund management can achieve for investors,” said Tim Holland, CFA, Orion’s Chief Investment Officer. “To earn recognition from Barron’s really validates our investment philosophy and highlights our Destinations Funds as an integral part of the advisor-client journey.”
The 10 funds which make up the Destinations multi-asset class portfolios, include: Destinations Large Cap Equity Fund, Destinations Small-Mid Cap Equity Fund, Destinations Equity Income Fund, Destinations International Equity Fund, Destinations Core Fixed Income Fund, Destinations Low Duration Fixed Income Fund, Destinations Municipal Fixed Income Fund, Destinations Global Fixed Income Opportunities Fund, Destinations Multi Strategy Alternatives Fund, and Destinations Real Assets Fund.
