ConsumerMedical, a clinical advocacy company that helps employees and plan members navigate the nation’s complex healthcare system, announced today that current President Kevin Kickhaefer is being promoted to Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Current CEO and Founder David Hines will move into a newly created position as Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors. These changes will go into effect January 1, 2021.

ConsumerMedical experienced rapid growth in 2020, even as the COVID-19 pandemic created uncertainty in both the healthcare and employee benefits industries. The company reached several milestones in their virtual care offerings, including acquiring one of the industry’s leading innovators, InfiniteMD (IMD). Deepening partnerships with several of the nation’s largest health plans also boosted growth and laid the groundwork for further expansion over the next few years. Additionally, adding Brian Marcotte, the former CEO and President of Business Group on Health, to an already strong Board of Directors, further expanded the depth and talent of the organization.

“Kevin has done an outstanding job over the last several years in the role of president and has assembled a great team,” said Hines, who founded ConsumerMedical in 1996. “Under his leadership, we have reached record growth, have continued to add outstanding people, and have achieved success within all areas of our business. I am impressed with his ability to provide the strong leadership that meets and exceeds our business objectives, while reinforcing the mission of our company.”

Kickhaefer, a 26-year healthcare industry veteran, will be responsible for the day-to-day management of primary business functions and business objectives. He joined ConsumerMedical in November 2014 as Chief Revenue Officer and was promoted to president in August of 2018. Prior to joining ConsumerMedical, he led Sales and Market Development for Bloom Health. He also drove sales for CIGNA within their National Accounts team and at Aetna within their middle-market teams by working with consultants and employers.

Kickhaefer notes that product innovation, tech-enabled member experiences, and data analytics designed to advance service, value and improve quality will remain top priorities. “However, our company’s focus will always remain on helping employees and members navigate the complexities of the healthcare system with personalized compassionate support from our experts in medical guidance,” he stated.

“Kevin’s promotion to CEO acknowledges our confidence in him as the right person to lead at this stage of our growth,” said Bill Pelfrey, former Chairman of the Board, current senior ranking board member and strategic advisor. Pelfrey has been working with Hines since 2001. “When we hired Kevin, David and I felt it was a matter of ‘when’ for him to move into this role. Now that time has come, and I am personally excited that David is bringing all of his passion to this new leadership role on the board. It’s the best of both worlds for ConsumerMedical.”

Following his 25 years of successful company leadership, Hines will be joining the BOD as executive chairman, maintaining an active role in identifying and planning strategies that drive lasting growth and innovation for the company.

“We have helped countless individuals and families over the years as they have made some of the most important medical decisions of their lives,” said Hines. “This is a transformative time in healthcare and the market landscape offers abundant opportunities for us to reach and help even more people when they need it most. My focus will be working with Kevin and our board on identifying the best strategies to achieve these goals.”
