Cyber Academy of South Carolina Highlights Graduates with In-Person Commencement Ceremony

Cyber Academy of South Carolina (CASC), an online public school, will
celebrate the Class of 2019 during an in-person commencement ceremony on
Saturday, June 8th. The ceremony will take place at the Koger
Center for the Arts in Columbia.

Many assume that attending an online public school like CASC means that
students miss out on “real” high school experiences, but this in-person
graduation proves quite the opposite.

This year, CASC will graduate more than 165 students. This year’s
valedictorian and salutatorian are students Claire Tsakanikas and Lauren
Ahl.

Kevin P. Chavous, President of Academics, Policy and Schools at K12,
Inc., will address the graduates and their assembled guests during
the ceremony.

“CASC’s Class of 2019 has shown resolve and determination in pursuing
their education, which will serve them well in college and beyond,” said
Chavous. “Like most kids, they have struggled, and they have succeeded,
but it is these life lessons that will set them up for success as they
begin the next chapter of their lives.”

Collectively, the Class of 2019 reports it has been offered more than
$750,000 in scholarships and have been accepted to trade schools,
colleges and universities across the country including: the University
of South Carolina, Clemson University and the Clemson University Calhoun
Honors Program, the Savannah College of Art and Design, Northern Arizona
University, Greenville Technical College, Augusta University, and
Trident Technical College.

“The personalized education we provide at CASC gives our students the
tools they need to succeed,” said CASC’s Head of School David Crook.
“Our seniors are uniquely prepared for any post-graduation endeavor they
decide to pursue.”

Students enroll in CASC for a number of reasons—some are looking to
escape bullying, some may have fallen academically off track, and others
are looking for an alternative to the traditional brick-and-mortar
classroom setting. CASC students access a robust online curriculum in
the core subjects of math, science, English language arts, history, art
and music and a host of electives, and attend live virtual classes
taught by state-licensed teachers.
