DataTribe, a startup foundry that invests in and co-builds next-generation cybersecurity and data science companies, today announced that John Funge, currently Chief Product Officer (CPO) at DataTribe, will be promoted to Managing Director. As Managing Director, John will lead DataTribe as it moves forward and continues to help founders build dominant startups.
“DataTribe is focused on creating world class cybersecurity startups with unique talent and over-the-horizon technology from the intelligence community. John’s extensive startup experience combined with a deep understanding of what it takes to get a product off the ground and into market makes him perfect for Managing Director of DataTribe,” said Mike Janke, Co-Founder of DataTribe.
Funge has been working alongside the DataTribe executive team, serving as the CPO, where he supports portfolio companies and participates in the selection of new investments. Funge is a Board Member for three of DataTribe’s portfolio companies: BlackCloak, The CyberWire, and Inertial Sense.
DataTribe Co-Founder and Investment Board Member Bob Ackerman said: “I am pleased to announce John’s promotion as Managing Director. He exemplifies the operationally-focused, founder-friendly ethos of DataTribe.”
Prior to joining DataTribe, John co-founded and built three successful technology firms, all of which were acquired by larger companies. John started his career as a software engineer and has worked in roles ranging from sales to product management. His diverse experience spans markets including cybersecurity, data analytics, digital media, healthcare, and telecommunications.
“DataTribe is really unique. There may be no better place to build a cybersecurity startup. The entrepreneur in me is sometimes a bit envious of how we help our portfolio companies. Looking ahead, the goal is to continue doing what DataTribe does really well: finding huge opportunities centered around cutting-edge technologies and partnering with founders to create the best companies in their respective categories,” said Funge, Managing Director of DataTribe.
