Deep Lens, Inc., an AI company focused on enabling faster recruitment of the best-suited patients for clinical trials at the time of diagnosis using VIPER, announced today that its CEO and co-founder, Dave Billiter, was named the Dealmaker of the Year at the Smart Business Dealmakers 2019 Conference, held on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at Hilton Columbus Downtown, in Columbus, Ohio. The event featured a lineup of business owners, entrepreneurs, merger and acquisition advisors, and investors who participated in roundtable discussions, panel discussions, and one-on-one networking, and concluded with the awards.

“Every year, the Smart Business Dealmakers Conference brings together central Ohio’s business owners with deal-making and investor communities,” said Fred Koury, president and CEO of Smart Business Network. “Successful CEOs, investors, and advisors shared their insights on key merger and acquisition topics. It was a great evening.”

Deep Lens has been a shining success story in the Columbus start-up scene over the last year. Since its inception in 2017, Deep Lens has established itself as the leading disruptor in a huge market, by using AI and other technologies to advance and accelerate clinical trial recruitment in oncology, specifically commencing with the pathology of the patient and initiated at the time of diagnosis. To date, the company has raised more than $20 million from leading Silicon Valley, East Coast and Ohio-based venture capital firms, and has executed agreements with major pharma, biotech, and provider clients across the globe.

Having pioneered and further developed the company’s unique technology for AI-powered collaborative digital pathology, Dave Billiter is seen not only as an innovator extraordinaire, but also as a prolific negotiator, able to complete successful deals with some of the largest companies in the world.

Billiter has a diverse background spanning his 20-year career in healthcare and life sciences, in both large corporations and start-ups. Prior to leading the creation of Deep Lens, Inc, Billiter was the director of data strategy for Cardinal Health, where he developed data monetization strategies and new product development for the pharmaceutical and health care provider partners.

The impetus for Deep Lens came with Billiter’s tenure as the director of informatics at The Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. For more than 10 years, he led the innovative technology development that supported the Institute, primarily The Biopathology Center. “It’s an honor to win the 2019 Dealmaker of the Year award at the Smart Business Dealmakers 2019 conference,” said Billiter. “It’s a testament to the importance of our mission at Deep Lens to provide the most precise and timely source for identifying patients for biopharma/biotech sponsored clinical trials.”
