B&H Photo would like to share the announcement of the DJI
Osmo Action
. Rugged and resilient, the Osmo Action is ready to
capture your next adventure, whether it’s hiking, biking, skiing,
surfing, climbing, or even just lounging at the beach. Already the name
when it comes to drones and aerial photography, DJI’s entry into the
action cam arena was an obvious move. Leveraging it’s sophisticated
tech, DJI has created a masterpiece with the Osmo Action, one that
offers 4K HDR, dual color screens, and a class-leading RockSteady
electronic stabilization system.

The hallmark of any great action cam is durability. It needs to handle
dips, drops, slams, shocks, and more. The Osmo Action can take it all.
It’s waterproof to 36′, can withstand drops up to 5′, and it’s dustproof
and freezeproof to 14ºF. Basically, it’s an adventure-proof action cam
that’s ready for whatever you throw at it.

Although it shares a form factor with other cams on the market, the Osmo
Action has a key differentiator: a front-facing 1.4-inch full-color
screen. Never before have action selfies been this easy. Vlogging is
also painless, because the front-facing screen makes it that much easier
to frame yourself up before or during your adventure. The back of the
cam also features a bright 800-nit 2.25-inch touchscreen with water- and
fingerprint-repellent coating. Standard controls are available via a
physical power button, shutter button, and QuickSwitch button for rapid
access to plenty of functions.

The Osmo
Action
also comes with a dedicated battery that’s rated for up to 91
minutes of run time when shooting 4K30 with stabilization enabled. The
battery is secured behind two secure locks that ensure it remains
sealed. Inside a second sealed compartment are a microSD card slot and a
USB Type-C port for charging and data transmission.

DJI has a reputation for outfitting its devices with serious camera
specs, and the Osmo Action keeps that storied tradition alive. Packing a
12MP 1/2.3″ CMOS, the Osmo Action can record up to 4K60 with a bit rate
of 100 Mb/s and H.264 compression. Adventurists can expect consistently
crisp, clean imagery. Helping out is an f/2.8 lens with aspherical
elements that keep distortion to a minimum and reduce warping effects
inherent with an ultra-wide 145º FOV. An anti-reflective coating
completes the lens package by reducing the impact of flare and ghosting.

One of the many reasons DJI remains at the forefront of the industry is
because of the stabilization performance of its devices—especially the
Osmo line. The Osmo Action lives up to that rep with its class-leading
electronic stabilization system. Aptly named RockSteady, the Action’s
Electronic Image Stabilization technology works all the way up to 4K60,
offering incredibly smooth footage. This stabilization will dramatically
improve your walking vlogs, tracking shots—anything that involves
movement.

Speaking of improving your shots: HDR mode adds an additional three
stops of dynamic range to scenes for smoother gradients, giving users
the ability to capture more detail in the shadows and highlights that
might be lost otherwise. Full HD is also available and can be used with
super slow-motion recording up to 240 fps. At this speed, you can slow
down action footage and create dramatic or fun videos with ease.
Additionally, the Osmo Action features both Timelapse and Hyperlapse
modes. You can also program up to five custom modes and quickly switch
between them using the QuickSwitch button.

Beyond its incredible action cam bona fides, the Osmo Action has
plenty of additional features that will help you make the best action
vids possible. Connectivity, for instance, includes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
support. That means you can connect to the DJI Mimo app on your mobile
device and access camera settings, a live feed, and more. The app also
offers story templates, quick editing tools, and other features for
working with the video.

A beast on its own, the Osmo Action also supports a number of
accessories. The included camera frame gives you multiple mounting
options, as do the mounts that come with the camera. A waterproof case
is also available for dive pros and bumps the 36′ of waterproofing all
the way down to 197′. Standard extension rods and floating support
handles are available, as is a dedicated set of filters for optimizing
your footage.

The Osmo Action looks like a big time winner for DJI, and a solid entry
point into the action cam market. Action enthusiasts and adventurers
looking for a great way to capture stabilized footage of all their
exciting exploits should look no further.
