Earnin, the leader in innovative solutions to the world’s toughest financial problems, today announced the appointment of Erbil Karaman as Head of Product. Karaman, a veteran of Facebook and Lyft, will lead the future development of the company’s product roadmap, reporting to Earnin Founder and CEO Ram Palaniappan and working alongside recently appointed VP of Engineering, Richard Liu, another Facebook alumni. Karaman’s appointment is the latest in a series of executive hires boosting Earnin’s senior team across the organization.

Earnin’s Cash Out, HealthAid and Balance Shield comprise one of the industry’s first community-supported financial platforms, allowing people to access their earned wages before payday, helping reduce potential overdrafts and helping reduce unpaid medical bills.

“Erbil has a rich background in developing and shepherding some of the most innovative and disruptive consumer tech products in the past decade. We are thrilled to have him assume this role,” said Palaniappan. “We look forward to his creativity and drive as we continue to reshape the financial landscape and build solutions that empower Earnin’s growing community to take control of their financial future.”

In addition to his work at Facebook and Lyft, Karaman helped found several startups, including Sprongo and SpeedDate, among others. He has also served as an investor and mentor for several organizations, including the Thiel Foundation’s 20Under20 Fellowship.

“I am passionate about working with mission-based companies, and I was immediately drawn to Earnin’s focus on building products that tackle one of fintech’s most critical challenges – building a financial system that’s fair for everyone,” said Karaman. “The Earnin app is changing people’s lives and shifting the fintech landscape. I’m excited to be a part of this movement and look forward to working with the team to help take Earnin’s product set to the next level.”

About Earnin

Earnin is building innovative solutions to some of the toughest financial problems facing people today. The company’s community-supported financial platform provides a suite of products that give people the tools to take control of their financial future.

Earnin’s core product, Cash Out, reframes the conversation around earnings and pay periods, giving people quick access to wages they’ve already earned – shifting control away from companies and financial institutions and putting it back in the hands of people who work for a living. Earnin is also rethinking traditional business models, creating a system where people pay what they choose – even if that is zero.

Earnin’s other products include: Balance Shield which helps reduce possible overdrafts, a financial calendar that helps people budget and schedule payments, and HealthAid, a service that negotiates unpaid medical bills without charging mandatory fees.

Current funding partners include: Andreessen Horowitz, Matrix Partners, Ribbit Capital, Felicis Ventures and March Capital.
