The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Esme Learning have announced two six-week online courses in AI Leadership and Leading Health Tech Innovation that will deliver essential knowledge to help prepare business leaders and burgeoning health tech professionals for the future of work. The courses are the first of an executive education series in collaboration between the Institute and the AI-powered digital learning platform.

Successful AI Leadership course participants will receive a certificate co-issued by the MIT School of Architecture and Planning (SA+P) and the MIT Sloan School of Management. Leading Health Tech Innovation course participants will receive a certificate issued by the MIT SA+P.

The first presentation of the AI Leadership course begins July 7, 2021. The first presentation of the Leading Health Tech Innovation course begins June 16, 2021. Registration for both courses will close one week after the courses commence.

“The future of work will require massive career upskilling across industries, as the pandemic has accelerated digital transformation by years, and in some cases, decades,” said Beth Porter, co-founder and managing director at Esme Learning. “MIT is uniquely positioned to teach learners how to leverage AI to become better leaders, as well as the necessary skills to launch the next startup that will transform the health industry. We’ve thoughtfully created these two online courses with MIT to ensure working professionals have superior education opportunities that are truly engaging, collaborative, and directly applicable to the job they have, or the job they want to have.”

MIT SA+P and SLOAN SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT’s AI LEADERSHIP COURSE

IDC expects global revenue for the AI market to hit $328 billion in 2021, and grow over 1.5 times to $554 billion by 2024. There is a growing need for business leaders to understand how AI can transform leadership, and to view AI as not a disruptor, but an enhancer in solving organizational issues.

The AI Leadership course aims to help business leaders achieve this goal. By the end of the course, learners will be able to explain basic AI concepts, recognize misconceptions, identify leadership capabilities that AI can support, and evaluate and assess management gaps within their own organizations.

Faculty directors include Alex ‘Sandy’ Pentland, Media Lab Entrepreneurship Program Director, and Deborah Ancona, Founder of the MIT Leadership Center.

MIT SA+P’s LEADING HEALTH TECH INNOVATION COURSE

The worldwide digital health market is projected to hit $639.4 billion by 2026 with continued innovation in areas such as data interoperability, mental health and personalized care. In light of this opportunity, the Leading Health Tech Innovation course from MIT SA+P will provide a comprehensive guide to understanding innovation within the industry and how to structure a successful health tech product, service, or venture.

The course has a broad range of applications for:

  • Health tech startup leaders
  • Entrepreneurs interested in creating their own health tech product or service
  • Business leaders of medium-to-large healthcare companies looking to embrace the transformative power of AI wearables and machine learning

Concepts learned during the course will accelerate business impact, learning, improvement, and validation for corporate innovation groups, internal venture teams, and R&D Scientists.

Professor Rosalind W. Picard, Sc.D., FIEEE, will lead the course as faculty director. Picard is founder and director of the Affective Computing Research Group at the MIT Media Lab and founding faculty chair of MIT’s Mind+Hand+Heart Initiative.
