Former Hyundai Card Executive Jun-Hee Lee Joins Coupang as VP of FinTech & Payment Legal

Coupang, one of the world’s fastest-growing e-commerce companies, has added a veteran executive to its leadership team. Jun-Hee Lee has joined the e-commerce leader as vice president of FinTech & Payment Legal. He will oversee compliance and legal issues for all payment and fintech services, including OneTouch Payment, CouPay, and CouPay Money as well as Fraud Detection Systems. Lee comes to Coupang as the company’s growth rate reaches more than three times that of Korea’s booming e-commerce segment.

Most recently, Lee served as Legal Executive and Vice President for Hyundai Card, Hyundai Capital, and Hyundai Commercial, financial affiliates of Hyundai Motor Group. In this role, he oversaw legal and compliance affairs associated with building a big data analysis platform, AI-based chatbot service, and robotic process automation (RPA). He also directed legal support for fintech and other new digital businesses. Additionally, Lee directed legal support for major PLCC businesses, including Costco Card and Smile Card, as a compliance officer and the head of legal for Hyundai Card.

Prior to his work at Hyundai, Lee provided legal counsel at Kim & Chang for 13 years. During his tenure at the firm, he developed expertise in fintech and financial regulatory affairs and established its Fintech Team as leader. Lee worked with clients such as Hyundai Capital, SK Communications, Nonghyup, and Nexon on major information leakage incidents.

Lee obtained his bachelor’s degree from Seoul National University School of Law and completed the required curriculum of the Judicial Research and Training Institute. He obtained a Master of Laws Degree (LLM) from the University of Southern California and is admitted to practice law in New York state.
