Hill House Passport Charter Academy Charter School (HHPACS), a
tuition-free public charter school for under-credited students, serving
students under 21 who have not been able to finish their high school
education, will celebrate the Class of 2019 at an in-person commencement
ceremony on Friday, June 7th. The ceremony will take place at
6 pm at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in Pittsburgh.

Many assume that attending a school like HHPACS means that students miss
out on the ‘real’ high school experiences, but this in-person graduation
proves quite the opposite.

This year, HHPACS will graduate over 90 students, 5% more than 2018, and
will have over 1,000 people in attendance at Soldiers and Sailors
Memorial Hall.

Collectively, 75% of the class reports having been accepted to two- and
four-year colleges and universities across Pennsylvania and surrounding
states.

And just about 25% will directly enter the U.S. Military, or the
workforce with jobs or training in fields such security, tool and dye,
cosmetology, nursing, and IT.

“Our students have shown class, resolve, and determination in their
education and I couldn’t be prouder of the ‘Wolfpack’ Class of 2019,”
said Principal Bo Jackson. “Like most kids, they have struggled, and
they have succeeded, but it is these life lessons that will set them up
for success as they begin the next chapter of their lives.”

Noel Haggerty will serve as Valedictorian and plans to attend Community
College of Allegheny. Zaire Mauro will serve as Salutatorian and plans
to attend Community College of Allegheny as well. Both students, as well
as Mr. Jackson will be available for media interviews as well as to
describe the success stories of his students.

A Student of the Year will be announced at graduation for his/her
ability to overcome all obstacles and graduate near the top of their
class. This student will receive a brand-new laptop computer and will
speak at the event.

Students enroll in Hill House for a number of reasons, including those
looking to escape bullying, some who may have fallen academically off
track, or those looking for an alternative to the traditional
brick-and-mortar classroom setting. HHPACS students access a robust
online and in-person curriculum in the core subjects and a host of
electives, and attend classes taught by state-licensed teachers.
