IBM, the leader in hybrid cloud management and Turbonomic, the leader in Application Resource Management (ARM), today announced they have entered an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement. Under the OEM arrangement, IBM will brand, label, and sell Turbonomic as IBM Application Resource Management for Cloud Native (IBM ARM) to enhance IBM® Cloud Pak™ for Multicloud Management (CP4MCM). IBM ARM for Cloud Native will allow customers to optimize application performance by automating continuous scaling actions to adjust and resolve performance related issues, while also driving cost reductions through intelligent optimization of platform resources supporting the targeted applications.

IBM developed a best-in-class ecosystem to support expanding enterprise adoption of Cloud-Native architectures. Turbonomic was selected by IBM as an integrated part of IBM Cloud Pak for Multicloud Management to drive the next generation of hybrid management and to support open architectures for mission-critical cloud native applications, giving customers the ability to build once and run anywhere.

According to IDC, “By 2022, the acceleration of legacy app modernization and net-new development will lead to 20% of production apps being cloud native — utilizing microservices, containers, and dynamic orchestration.” (IDC: FutureScape: Worldwide Developer and DevOps 2020 Predictions. Oct 2019)

“IBM has been continuously evolving and expanding upon its hybrid cloud and AI capabilities, all while leveraging its open source, security, and run-anywhere scalability leadership,” said, Robin Hernandez, VP IBM Hybrid Multicloud & AI Ops. “Through IBM ARM for Cloud Native, IBM is now able to assure performance and extend our CP4MCM capabilities, enhancing the company’s cloud portfolio. We are thrilled that Turbonomic is now a key part of IBM’s strategy in growing its hybrid cloud and delivering innovative cloud native offerings.”

“IBM selecting, branding, selling, and supporting Turbonomic’s innovation underscores the importance of Application Resource Management for the next generation of Enterprise Hybrid Cloud Management platforms,” said Clinton France, Turbonomic’s VP of Strategic Solutions. “We are excited and honored to partner with IBM as the industry leader in bringing cloud native platforms to the enterprise.”

In April of 2020, Arvind Krishna, CEO of IBM outlined the importance of ‘winning the next generation enterprise architecture battle’ as clients move to ‘build once and run anywhere’. Turbonomic has been working with IBM and Red Hat to support and integrate ARM to enable this very vision in yesterday’s infrastructure, today’s cloud services, and tomorrow’s containers. “Customers will adopt AI not because they can, but because they must.”
