The Consumer Technology Association (CTA)® welcomes former Congressman Darrell Issa’s decision to run again for Congress. A former CTA chair and accomplished entrepreneur, Issa prioritized technology advocacy while serving in Congress and has a deep understanding of what the consumer technology sector means to the U.S. economy, competitiveness and job creation.

“Darrell Issa is a champion for innovation and his decision to return to Congress is welcome news,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CTA. “A dedicated advocate for the tech sector, Darrell’s focus on protecting entrepreneurs’ intellectual property rights helps preserve and advance America’s innovative spirit. While in office, he fought anti-innovation policies such as the Stop Online Piracy Act and worked across party lines to help his congressional colleagues understand the importance of smart tech policy. I’m confident Darrell’s leadership will be just as effective this second time around, and we look forward to working with him again on the policies that drive our nation’s role as the global leader on tech innovation.”

CTA volunteer leaders board who worked with Issa also declared their support:

“I have known Darrell Issa for over 10 years. There are no surprises with Darrell. He listens and lets you know exactly what he is thinking. He backs up his sound policies not by political chatter, but by getting it done,” said Randy Fry, Fry’s Electronics president and former CTA Executive Board chair.

“I have known Darrell Issa for years and have the highest respect for him. He is a no-nonsense guy who gets things done!” said John Shalam, VOXX International founder and chair, and longtime CTA Investment Committee chair.

“Having worked with CTA and Darrell on important consumer electronics issues – now heading the business he created and sold – I have seen Darrell Issa’s dedication and intellect up close. He has always served us in his California constituency with great care and distinction, and I am certain he will return to Congress as an incredibly effective leader given his work ethic and vast business and political experience,” said Bob Struble, Directed Electronics CEO, CTA Investment Committee vice chair and Board of Industry Leaders member.

“I am pleased to see an experienced, effective long-standing member of Congress reengage in our national politics,” said Patrick Lavelle, VOXX International president and CTA Executive Board Industry executive advisor.

“I am excited Darrell Issa is choosing to run for Congress again. Darrell’s long history of practical, bipartisan policies that support entrepreneurs no doubt fuels the economic growth we enjoy today. His return to Washington, DC is more important now than ever,” said Daniel Pidgeon, Starpower founder, CTA Executive Board Chair and incoming 2020 Executive Board secretary.

Issa served as CTA vice chair in 1997 and 1998 and chair in 1999 and 2000. He was named a CTA Digital Patriot in 2005 and inducted into the Consumer Technology Hall of Fame in 2017.
