After a school year like no other, Ohio Virtual Academy (OHVA), an online public school serving K-12 students throughout the state since 2002, will celebrate its graduates with four virtual commencement ceremonies and six regional in-person Senior Spotlights throughout the state for students and families that would like to attend.

All four virtual ceremonies will be Saturday, June 5th and the Senior Spotlights will be Friday, June 11th. In the age of COVID, note that these Spotlights are not ceremonies, but rather safe, distant, and individual time slots for students to recognized by staff in-person. There is no requirement or obligation to attend.

“While other schools may have struggled with online learning throughout the year, OHVA never missed a day of instruction, which kept our students motivated, excited, and moving forward,” said OHVA Head of School Dr. Kristin Stewart. “Their achievements deserve to be shouted from the top of Campbell Hill, and we’re happy to provide a range of solutions to help all our OHVA families.”

This year, OHVA will graduate nearly 1,000 students. Approximately 200 students will graduate with a cumulative GPA above 3.5 and nearly $1.8 million worth of college scholarships have reportedly been awarded to the Class of 2021.

Collectively, the graduating class reports it has been accepted to colleges and universities across Ohio and beyond, including the Ohio State University, the University of Toledo, Bowling Green State University, Purdue University, Marshall University, and Arizona State University.

Brandon Clark is OHVA’s 2021 valedictorian and has been accepted into several universities for the fall, including the Ohio State University and Miami University. Addison Emig is the class salutatorian and will attend Wright State University in the fall. The keynote speaker will be Kristin Fox, a mother of two and assistant high school principal from Poland, Ohio, who overcame daunting medical challenges to come back stronger than ever.

Prior to the pandemic, students enrolled in virtual school for a number of reasons—some were looking to escape bullying, some may have fallen academically off track, and others were looking for an alternative to the traditional classroom setting.

OHVA students access a robust online curriculum in the core subjects and a host of electives and attend live virtual classes taught by state-certified teachers.

OHVA, and the school’s mascot, Cardy, are inviting all families and friends worldwide to join the celebration.
