KORE today announced that Ian Baragar has been elected to the post of PTCRB IoT Sub-Working Group Chair, under the CTIA Certification LLC, the wireless industry’s device certification organization. PTCRB defines the wireless industry’s strict requirements to verify compliance with global industry standards for a wide range of cellular devices, from IoT solutions to consumer handsets. PTCRB certification helps mobile operators and device manufacturers ensure device interoperability with global wireless networks, eliminating the disruptive risk of having devices blocked on wireless networks.

In his role as a PTCRB Operator Board Member, Ian shares responsibilities with other wireless industry leaders from AT&T and T-Mobile who chair and co-chair PTCRB respectively. Ian helps to define the certification requirements for IoT devices, gain acceptance for IoT device certification changes, and act as a point of contact and liaison with other IoT certification and standards groups to build harmonization and leverage standardization and best practices across the industry.

“I congratulate Ian on this well-deserved leadership role in PTCRB,” said KORE President and Chief Executive Officer Romil Bahl. “Certification plays a pivotal role in IoT. Without proper certifications in place, devices cannot acquire network connectivity. And without connectivity there is no IoT. As an expert in IoT regulatory requirements, Ian has helped KORE customers around the globe navigate the complexities of device certification and deploy successful IoT projects – skills that will play a key role is his role with PTCRB.”

IoT failures are often associated with a lack of internal expertise and dedicated resources required to successfully manage, scale, and deploy their IoT solution. In many cases, a lack of experience in effectively managing IoT device certifications is a significant hurdle. Many companies take on the IoT certification journey alone, only to discover the unforeseen complexities, intricacies, and costs, often with high initial failure rates. This results in delayed time-to-market, slowed revenue realization, budget overruns, technology incompatibility, and even complete project failures.

KORE, a trusted IoT advisor, helps guide customers through the certification process and quickly, efficiently, and cost effectively achieve government, industry, and carrier-mandated certifications. Learn more about KORE certification services here.
