Latest Cohort of Junction Startups Aim to Grow Calgary’s Innovation-Driven Sectors

Sponsored by Businesswire

Platform Calgary is excited to announce the latest group of 15 startups chosen to participate in the Junction program. A full-time residency program, Junction helps founders build a strong groundwork and prepare their business for future growth.

“At Platform it is our aim to help foster a community of support for innovators that are turning concepts into entrepreneurial opportunities. To do this we must provide access to education and coaching that helps people gain the technical and business skills they need to be successful. Junction is a huge part of helping us achieve that goal,” says Terry Rock, CEO Platform Calgary. “We had over 80 applicants from around the world for this cohort, which is a good testament to our mandate to build innovation-driven, highly scalable companies in Calgary.”

The goal of the program is three-fold: One, to establish a clear foundation for Founders and their business. Two: to enable startups to clearly articulate their business to customers and investors. And three: To leave the program ready to scale, whether that be to an accelerator program, investment, or some other form of growth.

This cohort is a diverse and dynamic group of startups that work across the spectrum of tech innovation building solutions in healthcare, agriculture, HR, and SMBs. The 15 Startups that have been chosen for the Fall 2019 cohort of Junction are:

  • Ammolite BioModels – Aubrey Blair-Pattison
  • Bessie – Spencer Kerber, Shanika Abeysinghe, & Alex Leakos
  • CostCertified – Mike Bignold & Dave Vass
  • DESTINE Health Inc. – Jennifer van Zelm & Sebastian Schroh

  • PostGame – Eric Yeung
  • Rambody – Farzan Havaee

The 9 week program includes a mix of in-class educational sessions, hands-on workshops, special events, mental health awareness, 1:1 Advisor coaching, and peer-learning.

“We ask our startups to think of their company as a giant puzzle. The pieces are the components that make up their business, and Junction shows them how to put the pieces together,” says David Yiptong, Director Programs Platform Calgary.

Junction’s Fall 2019 cohort culminates with a Demo Day on Thursday, November 28, 2019. Demo Day gives the Founders an opportunity to pitch their companies to Calgary’s startup community leaders and showcase what they have learned and how they have grown in the Junction program.
