Lionrock Behavioral Health, Inc., the leading telehealth provider of substance use disorder (SUD) treatment and recovery services in the United States, today announced the first stand-alone employee benefit option for SUD treatment, creating flexible options for companies of all sizes.

The new per employee per month (PEPM) pricing model aims to help companies more easily close the gap in their healthcare benefit programs, which are required to provide SUD treatment and recovery at the same level as other health benefits. Companies that prefer to use a case rate program or fee for service model to offer Lionrock’s services can still do so.

Lionrock programs are built to provide best-in-class treatment for the millions of working people who struggle with substance use disorders.

“Lionrock makes it easy for employees to get help with SUDs early, and of course early intervention in all health care leads to better outcomes and lower costs,” said Peter Loeb, Lionrock’s CEO. “And it works: in our recent survey, 80 percent of Lionrock clients reported being abstinent 18 months after treatment, compared to average abstinence rates of approximately 40 percent.”

According to The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 20.7 million Americans, or approximately 8 percent of the U.S. population, need SUD treatment. However, only 4 million people receive treatment. (Another 28 million Americans are living in recovery from SUD.)

“Only 15 percent of people struggling with a substance use disorder get the help they need,” added Loeb. “The top three reasons people don’t seek help are shame or stigma in their communities, access to treatment, and lack of health insurance coverage. Lionrock’s innovative treatment modality is breaking down the barriers to getting help that stop most people from getting the treatment they need.”

Lionrock is the only telehealth provider that works directly with employers, as well as their benefit brokers, to offer the robust level of care specifically required to effectively treat SUDs, formerly known as addiction. By pairing their other telehealth benefits with Lionrock’s programs, employers can now address their employees’ substance use disorders, a serious mental health issue impacting every industry across the country.

SUD often goes untreated because it is still considered a moral issue, not a health issue, by a significant portion of the population, and employees fear seeking treatment will lead to job loss. Untreated Substance Use Disorders cost US business approximately $180Billion every year, according to The American Journal of Preventive Medicine.

How Lionrock’s Treatment Works

Lionrock pairs secure video conference-based treatment services with flexible schedules that fit busy people’s lives. This allows clients to meet their work and home responsibilities while getting the help they need from the privacy of home. It also costs a fraction of expensive inpatient treatment, making it a more practical option for many people. Importantly, Lionrock’s private online treatment programs are typically used by people seeking treatment much earlier than they would with traditional, inpatient programs.
