Mercatus, a leading provider in grocery eCommerce solutions, has been named by Food Logistics, a publication exclusively dedicated to covering the movement of product through the global food supply chain, to its 2020 list of FL100+ Top Software and Technology.

The annual award honors leading software and technology providers that ensure a safe, efficient and reliable global food and beverage supply chain. Mercatus empowers leading regional grocers to create authentic online shopping experiences, from digital engagement to fulfillment. With the Mercatus Integrated Commerce® platform, leading U.S. grocery retailers have been able to provide their customers and communities with safe, convenient and timely online ordering, pickup and delivery options throughout the health crisis.

“This pandemic has thrown the food industry a curveball, but many of these providers fast-tracked the development and deployment of their solutions to ensure food safety, traceability, visibility and quality assurance,” said Marina Mayer, editor in chief, Food Logistics and Supply & Demand Chain Executive. “So, to these winners and others in the industry working to make a difference, thank you.”

The near-instant move to curbside pickup and delivery during the pandemic has created major challenges for the grocery industry this year. Retailers across the country experienced an influx of online orders on a scale never experienced before. Getting these essential food items into the hands of consumers required immediate scaling of in-store operations, from supply chain and inventory management all the way through to picking and packing capabilities.

To address these challenges and assist retailers in scaling their operations, in June 2020, Mercatus announced its Enhanced Fulfillment capability. With the solution, online orders made through the Mercatus platform are automatically sorted into optimized preparation times, and wave and zone pick paths, increasing operational efficiency. Employees can also connect with customers in real time for order substitutions, as they pick and pack orders. At the time of pickup, employees have real-time visibility into customer location and can accurately track customer arrival for a seamless and contact-free pickup experience, in under two minutes.

Mercatus Enhanced Fulfillment is designed to scale as the grocer’s business requires. Retailers can easily configure intelligent wave and zone pick based on fulfillment environment, whether that be retail locations, dark stores, warehouses, micro-fulfillment centers or a combination of each.

“We’re honored to receive this award recognizing our technology’s ability to help retailers serve their customers when needed most,” said Sylvain Perrier, president and CEO, Mercatus. “Empowering retailers to better serve their online customers while helping grow their eGrocery business and brand is at the core of everything we do. We are proud to continue to help our clients compete in this growing market space with innovative fulfillment solutions.”

Companies on this year’s 2020 FL100+ Top Software and Technology Providers list are profiled in the November/December 2020 issue of Food Logistics, as well as online at www.foodlogistics.com.
