STRATA DATA CONFERENCE – O’Reilly, the premier source for insight-driven learning on technology and business, today released The AI Ladder, a report that demystifies the enterprise application of artificial intelligence (AI). Authored by Rob Thomas, general manager of IBM Data and AI, with a foreword from O’Reilly founder and CEO Tim O’Reilly, the report provides guidance for companies on how to take advantage of AI technologies, even without the benefit of advanced AI research at their fingertips. The report was presented today at the O’Reilly Strata Data Conference in New York and is now available in full on the O’Reilly website.

With the potential to add almost $16 trillion to the global economy by 2030, AI is still a far-off reality for many organizations. With slow adoption and a lack of understanding about the infrastructure required for AI among business leaders, The AI Ladder helps businesses understand where they are in their AI journey and provides a framework for the successful implementation of AI in the enterprise.

“Enterprises know that AI is changing the game, but they don’t know the new rules,” said Tim O’Reilly. “‘The AI Ladder’ is a framework that helps businesses to understand the prerequisites for effective AI, to build the necessary capabilities, and then to integrate them into their organization. With this report, Rob has made this process tangible, providing a thorough road map that is pragmatic and easy to follow.”

The AI Ladder outlines four key areas of consideration for businesses: how they collect data, organize data, analyze data, and ultimately infuse AI into their organization. By making data simple and accessible, creating a business-ready analytics foundation, building and scaling AI with trust and transparency, and operationalizing AI throughout the business, enterprises can build the foundation for a governed, efficient, agile, and future-proof approach to AI.

“The ability to make a task both more efficient and more successful is the goal of every organization. AI holds the key to achieving this improvement in performance and productivity, but it’s not a magic wand,” said Rob Thomas. “By applying a ladder approach that breaks down the components of the road to AI, organizations can overcome gaps and embrace AI in a manner that can be deployed and scaled across an enterprise.”

The full report can be read here and highlights from O’Reilly and Thomas’s presentation at the Strata Data Conference in New York will be made available after the show. For more information about O’Reilly, please visit www.oreilly.com.
