The Climate Leadership Awards take place during the Climate Leadership Conference, which brings together forward-thinking leaders from business, government, academia, and the non-profit community to address climate change through policy, innovation, and business solutions. Awardees are honored for exemplary corporate, organizational, and individual leadership in reducing carbon pollution and addressing climate change in their operations and strategies.
Over the past 50 years Pitney Bowes has worked to minimize its waste streams, expand the use of returnable/ reusable packaging designs, maximize the use of water-based inks, evaluate “greener” alternative waste-stream disposal practices and outlets, use partnerships to improve the recovery of equipment for reuse, recycling and end-of-life stewardship, employ innovative, responsible waste management vendors, and manage the remediation efforts from legacy site contamination.
“Sustainability has been a focus for Pitney Bowes for some time. Today, we are more motivated than ever to continue to do ‘the right thing, the right way’ for our stakeholders, from clients and employees to the communities where we operate and the environment we all share,” said Daniel Goldstein, Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary at Pitney Bowes. “Taking action on climate change is more important than it’s ever been. We are inspired and honored to be in the company of so many outstanding U.S. organizations awarded tonight.”
“Congratulations to the 2020 Climate Leadership Award winner, Pitney Bowes, for their stand-out achievements,” said Amy Holm, Executive Director of The Climate Registry. “At a time when the world urgently needs more climate ambition, these organizations and individuals demonstrate what is possible.”
“Planning for long-term prosperity means accounting for climate impacts and a decarbonized economy,” said Bob Perciasepe, President of the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES). “The only way to take advantage of the clean energy transition is to be clear-eyed about climate challenges. Pitney Bowes has demonstrated outstanding leadership in this and will be ahead of the game in the clean energy economy.”
Pitney Bowes is recognized for Excellence in Greenhouse Gas Management (Goal Setting Certificate) for the following:
- Reducing emissions 8 percent from 2015 to 2020.
- Investing in energy efficiency through site consolidation. In 2018, Pitney Bowes consolidated more than 2.6 million square feet of office space and implemented 3 LED lighting retrofit projects.
- Optimizing the fleet by condensing in-house routes, reducing drivers and vehicle fleet, and adding a newly acquired business to existing business routes. Additionally, Pitney Bowes initiated a series of fuel saving activities to minimize the fleet’s impact on the environment.
