Health2047 Inc., the Silicon Valley-based innovation subsidiary of the American Medical Association (AMA), displayed strong momentum in the first half of 2021, underscored by the launch of three spinout companies, significant additions to the company’s senior leadership team, and the successful release of a new monthly healthcare-focused podcast, So You Want to Transform Healthcare.

“Our business momentum continues to accelerate as we and our strategic partners develop and commercialize system-level solutions in chronic care, data utility, radical productivity, and healthcare value,” said Health2047 CEO Lawrence Cohen. “We continue to find, form and scale the companies needed to transform U.S. healthcare at the system level, and expect to announce more spinouts in the second half of 2021. We’ve also been supporting our portfolio pipeline with an expanded leadership team, and we’ve developed our own podcast that speaks to critical healthcare issues and emerging innovations that matter.”

Companies Built to Transform Healthcare

In Q1, Health2047 launched Phenomix Sciences, a company founded by physician-scientists Andres Acosta, M.D., Ph.D., and Michael Camilleri, M.D. at Mayo Clinic. Led by CEO Mark Bagnall, former Executive in Residence at Health2047, Phenomix is developing products based on the founders’ work at Mayo that shows obesity is comprised of four distinct phenotypes.

In Q2, Health2047 spun out both Emergence Healthcare Group and SiteBridge Research. Emergence Healthcare Group offers a turnkey practice solution designed to reduce the administrative burdens and financial pressures intrinsic to today’s private practice. It provides physicians more time to focus on the health and well-being of their patients, with the peace of mind knowing that someone is focusing on the health and well-being of their practice. SiteBridge Research is a startup designed to radically expand and enhance the clinical trial ecosystem by fostering greater inclusion — for both physicians and patients. Its novel ‘Trial-In-A-Box’ platform provides access to clinical research training, resources and support spanning initial feasibility and site start-up through full study delivery and close out.

These three new ventures join Health2047’s portfolio of spinouts: real-time data access innovator Medcurio; tech-enabled managed care provider for chronically underserved populations Zing Health; chronic disease prevention pioneer First Mile Care; secure private network-as-a-service provider Akiri; and secure health data exchange developer HX Square.

New Managing Directors

The Health2047 team named two new managing directors—Warren Templeton and Sehoon Kwak—in Q2 2021. Templeton brings strong analytical and deep technical skills to the Health2047 Inc. leadership team, possessing significant capabilities in both enterprise- and consumer-focused product development. Kwak brings over 20 years of experience in R&D, financial management (including healthcare reimbursement), engineering, strategic partnerships, and revenue growth.

Transforming Healthcare Podcast

Health2047 also launched its monthly podcast, So You Want to Transform Healthcare. In it, Health2047 Managing Director of Medical Affairs, Dr. M. Christine Stock has candid conversations with leaders operating at the intersection of healthcare and technology-enabled innovation. In July 2021—just eight months since inception—the podcast was featured at #22 in the Top 60 Healthcare Industry Podcasts list.
