TDK Corporation (TSE: 6762) will present the industry’s latest Battery and xEV solutions and display TDK and EPCOS brand products in Booth #2418 at The Battery Show North America 2019, Suburban Collection Showplace, September 10-12, Novi, Michigan.

Additionally, TDK-Lambda will present high current and high voltage programmable DC power supplies in Booth #2330.

TDK’s exhibition will include the following solutions:

Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors: The EPCOS B41689 and B41789 series are suitable for 48V inverters used for combining 12 V and 48 V batteries to support increasing power demands in automotive applications. The B416 types include axial-lead design, with B417 types featuring soldering star design. This product line has high current capability, operating temperature of up to 150°C and high vibration stability of up to 60g. This combination of features is not available in any other product line on the market and are ideal for applications in hybrid vehicles.

Temperature Sensors: The TDK NTCRP assembly series with PPS resin case type for automotive applications features a small case size for good thermal response and easy installation, robustness and heat resistance. These NTC temperature sensors have a response time of 4.8 seconds and an insulation resistance equal to more than 100 MΩ (between case outside and wire). The series is heat resistant up to 200 degrees Celsius in automatic transmission fluid and manages the best performance of xEV motors up to maximum temperatures.

Current Sense Transformers: The EPCOS SMT transformers are available with a variety of turn ratios. The permissible operating temperature range extends from -40°C to +150°C. The transformers are suitable for measuring currents in the frequency range from 50 kHz to 250 kHz. The test voltage between the primary and secondary sides is 2400 V AC and the creepage distances meet the requirements for basic insulation according to IEC 60664. These components are AEC-Q200 qualified, making them ideal for DC/DC inverters in xEV applications.

Pulse Transformers: The TDK VGT series SMD transformers were designed for use in lithium-ion battery voltage monitoring systems for electric vehicles. These SMD pulse transformers have high withstand voltage and utilize a unique structure that improves anti-vibration performance and results in high-level co-planarity. Operating temperature range of -40°C to +130°C (including self-temperature rise) and are AEC-Q200 compliant.

High-voltage Contactors: The TDK HVC Series of high-voltage contactors are available with current capabilities of 135 A to 500 A. Their gas-filled switching chamber ensures that arcs are safely and quickly extinguished when the current is switched off. The HVC series is especially suitable for use in battery management systems and DC charging stations in e-mobility applications where fast and reliable disconnect is required.

Film Capacitors: The EPCOS MKP Y2 series capacitors for EMI suppression is designed for rated voltages of 300 V AC, and offer a permissible rated voltage of 350 V AC. The capacitances of the B3203 series range from 4.7 nF to 1.2 µF. They are certified according to IEC 60384-14:2013/AMD1:2016 and classified in accordance with “Grade III high robustness under high humidity Test B.” The capacitors are approved in accordance with UL and EN and qualified to AEC-Q200. The possible applications of the new Y2 capacitors include EMI suppression in filters that are subjected to harsh environment conditions and demand higher rated voltages in automotive applications.

Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors: The TDK CN series features terminal electrodes with a conductive resin layer that provides high mechanical robustness to protect against board flexure. Soft-termination MLCCs, which are able to withstand the stress from board flexure, are an effective way to prevent short circuits when used in battery lines. TDK has achieved the low terminal resistance values by applying the conductive resin layer only where the terminal electrode comes into contact with the PCB. These MLCCs are suitable for battery lines in automotive and industrial robot applications, where they help to improve system reliability.
