Computer 2000 Name Disappears As Tech Data Finally Takes Over

Computer 2000  has buried its name and is now rebranding under the name of its parent company Tech Data.

C2000 has existed for 30 years but was taken over by Tech Data in 1998 to become the UK arm of the massive worldwide distribution company. It has been a long time in the making but, after 15 years, the merger could now be said to be complete.

Apart from the name change, The former C2000 intends to make the switchover as “seamless” for its partners as possible. The usual telephone numbers and email addresses will still be in use and a new ‘techdata.co.uk’ address has come into use.

Peter Hubbard, managing director for Tech Data UK and Ireland said, “We are proud, after 15 years, to be trading under the same brand as our parent company and the rest of the Tech Data group. The rebrand is an important milestone in the history of the UK organisation. It lays the foundation for the forthcoming integration of SDG into the Tech Data UK business and the collection of specialists – Azlan, Datech, Maverick and Tech Data Mobile.”

Though the company has not yet given a reason for the move after a decade and a half, the acquisition of SDG a year ago was probably the catalyst for the integration process. Tech Data was faced with bringing together C2000 with SDG and its branded European operations: IQ Sys and ISI Distribution in the UK, ETC and Best’Ware in France, and ETC in the Netherlands.

The website has already made the switch to Tech Data’s branding but keeps the Computer2000 URL. Further rebranding changes will include signage on the C2000 buildings and exhibition stands, marketing collateral and stationery.

From a legal perspective, Computer 2000 Distribution Limited  ceases to exist and now officially becomes the trading entity Tech Data Limited. Presumably, the next move will be the subsumption of the SDG brands.
