Review: All your home surveillance needs via an Apple or Android gadget and the cloud

The growth of the smart home technology market is in no doubt and the channel is expected to take advantage of a growing line of products.

Analyst Beecham Research estimates the smart home product market is set to be worth $16.2 billion by 2020.

Surveillance is a key segment in the market and WiFi connected cameras which can collect data in the cloud are growing in number. One of the latest is the Evo camera from British company Y-cam Solutions.

y-camThe Evo is a compact WiFi, motion-activated HD video camera for indoor use and comes with free cloud-based video storage with no monthly contracts.

Unlimited recorded data can be stored and viewed going back seven days on a rolling basis.

Just plug in the camera, download the free Y-cam app onto either an iOS or Android device and follow the step-by-step instructions. ChannelBiz found it to be a very simple and quick process.

All motion-activated videos are organised securely in date order off-site, so they can’t be damaged, over-written or stolen. And using their mobile device users can view and hear HD video in real time, to keep an eye on vulnerable relatives or pets, as well as property.

All camera settings can be managed remotely so you can adjust to suit your routine, whether out at work or going away on holiday. If you are using multiple cameras in one property or at different ones, the videos from them all can be managed from a single installed app.

The camera comes with a magnetic stand, a three metre USB cable, UK/EU/US power adapters, an optional wall mount plate and screws, and a quick start guide. The camera can also be controlled via Bluetooth and delivers night vision up to 8 metres away.

Y-cam Evo is available at a recommended price of £129.99 through various outlets. The Y-Cam HD outdoor camera costs £179.99 or a Starter Kit bundle, which includes one Evo and one outdoor camera, costs £259
