“James is an exceptional addition to the Innovasonic executive team,”
said Dr. Boris Kobrin, Founder and CEO of Innovasonic. “His robotics and
autonomous driving technology expertise fits right in with our current
development efforts to design a new and disruptive sensor cleaning
technology for LIDARs. We will also benefit from Dr. Kuffner’s strategic
vision and vast industry network as we start discussions with potential
commercial partners early in our development cycle.”

Dr. Kuffner brings over 25 years’ experience in engineering research and
executive management. He co-founded and managed the Google Robotics
division, helped develop Google’s self-driving car, and has led research
and development of environment perception, autonomous motion planning
and machine learning at the Toyota Research Institute. He is a
co-inventor of the RRT algorithm for robot motion planning and author of
125 publications and 40 patents in 3D graphics, robotics, and autonomous
vehicles. Dr. Kuffner is currently serving as CEO of Toyota Research
Institute – Advanced Development (Tokyo, Japan).

“Innovasonic is challenging the status quo in surface cleaning
technologies, which are currently severely outdated,” said Dr. James
Kuffner. “Robust perception is critical for automated driving systems,
and the quality and integrity of raw sensor data is at the foundation.
PiezoWipe technology in development at Innovasonic is poised to bolster
this foundation by providing automatic surface cleaning for LIDARs and
cameras without any macro-scale moving parts. I am excited to be a part
of Innovasonic’s innovative team and support this ambitious technology
development.”
