Barnes
& Noble Education, Inc. (NYSE: BNED)
, a leading provider of
educational products and services solutions for higher education and
K-12 institutions, today announced a deeper partnership with OpenStax™,
the Rice University-based publisher of open educational resources
(“OER”). Beginning Fall 2019, OpenStax will include the Business Law textbook
from BNC
OER+
(formerly known as LoudCloud Courseware) in its catalog of open
educational resources, which are available to all educators at no cost.
The expanded partnership between the companies for such content
collaboration will further drive affordability and accessibility for
students nationwide.

“OpenStax is very pleased to include Business Law in our growing catalog
of resources. Business Law is designed to meet the scope and sequence
requirements of an introductory business law course and includes new
assessment items provided by OpenStax,” said David Harris, editor in
chief at OpenStax. “The peer review process reveals a resource that
should serve instructors and students well at an appropriate
level.” Harris adds, “We are excited to expand our relationship with
BNED as they not only continue to support the sustainability of our
efforts but also demonstrate their commitment to expanding the number of
resources that are freely available to students under an open license.”

Currently, the OpenStax catalog covers various subjects including
science, math, social sciences, humanities and business. The inclusion
of the BNC OER+ Business Law textbook allows OpenStax to
offer content for a more specialized discipline in its catalog. Business
Law
features 14 learning objectives, including basic American legal
principles, sources and types of law, business ethics and social
responsibility, as well as the impact of the U.S. Constitution on the
business environment.

“OpenStax has been a great partner for many years, and we are thrilled
to expand our relationship by providing full access to our Business Law
content in their catalog in the open domain,” said Sesha Bolisetty, Head
of Content Operations, BNED. “As more colleges and universities utilize
OER in their efforts to drive down the cost of education, it is critical
that they have access to the widest possible selection of high-quality
digital course materials across various subjects. This course was
developed from the ground up in partnership with faculty subject matter
experts that specialize in this field. This will provide great value for
faculty members seeking to implement more affordable course materials in
their class.”

Faculty looking to include turnkey digital courseware in Business Law
can adopt it directly from BNC OER+ by contacting their bookstore
manager, visiting www.bncoerplus.com
or contacting courseware@bnedloudcloud.com.
