According to the data, popular categories are consumer electronics, mobile phones and accessories, home appliances, sports and outdoor products, apparel, home and garden, and health and beauty. In which, the sales of Xiaomi mobile phones hit a new high, up 168 times on Black Friday year-over-year.
“Our strong sales was mainly driven by the stay-at-home economy related products, given the pandemic restricts street shopping, and more people choose to spend time at home rather than traveling,” said Jane Zhang, head of marketing operations at DHgate.
The United States buyers continued to dominate the holiday shopping season on DHgate, it accounts 57% of the total GMV, followed by the United Kingdom, France, Canada, and Spain. Besides, Africa has gained the highest growth rate, with sales in Sierra Leone rocketed 23 times year-over-year, followed by Lesotho and Morocco. DHgate’s multi-language sites also broke the record, the French site and the Spanish site achieved the highest single-day transaction value.
Due to the lockdown and social distancing policies, sales of personal protective products such as masks continue to rise. People still love fashion, even in the pandemic. Therefore, demand for stylish masks has exponentially shot up, surging over 1,000 times year-over-year.
On DHgate, shopping through a mobile device (mobile commerce) continues to grow worldwide. During the shopping season, mobile commerce accounted for 78%, an increase of 7% year-over-year, while 22% was made on a desktop.
The overseas warehouses made an extraordinary contribution to this promotion. 52% of branded products in 3C, home appliances, sports and outdoor products have been shipped from overseas warehouses, greatly reducing the delivery time by 70% and significantly improving the consumer experience.
Stay-at-Home Economy Products Soars 15 Times
Due to the pandemic, working from home becomes a new normal. With most of the time being kept at home, people have purchased more housing-related items for a more comfortable environment. Sales of major categories related to stay-at-home economy soared 15 times.
The demand for small home appliances has rapidly climbed across the board, including a 100-time leap in the sale of sweeping robots year-over-year, a 17-time rise in steam irons, and a 13-time growth in digital scales. Meanwhile, the sales of purifiers, fans, and household vacuum cleaners all expanded over 3 to 5 times.
Home entertainment gains significant growth. To share their lives through online video, the sales of filming equipment such as tripod heads and LED ring fill lights surged by 160 and 10 times, respectively. At the same time, outdoor entertainment in their backyards is essential to people. the sales of snowball makers surged over 120 times. There is even a more significant demand for indoor entertainment as people entertain their time together, particularly in board games, card games, and Ultra HD TVs.
Global customers are spending more on home and garden products. The sales for gardening tools rose 20 times. Both outdoor furniture and cookware surged 17 times. People care more about their home safety, the home security system devices are reported a 16-time rise in demand. Home storage and organization grew 423%, festive and party supplies up 166%.
