Similar to college signing days for athletes, the next generation of STEM talent in the Potomac Region (Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.) will sign a letter of intent to pursue a two- or four-year degree in a STEM field after high school on Monday, May 11, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. ET. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, this traditionally in-person ceremony will be held as a virtual event. This inaugural Potomac STEM Signing Day, presented by Boeing and powered by Tallo, will feature personal videos and photos from each of the 30 selected students signing their letter of intent and include keynote remarks from: Atif Qarni, Secretary of Education, Commonwealth of Virginia; Lewis D. Ferebee, Ed.D., Chancellor of DC Public Schools; Ellen Stofan, John and Adrienne Mars Director, National Air and Space Museum; Tim Keating, Boeing executive vice president of Government Operations; and Ted Colbert, president and chief executive officer of Boeing Global Services. The event will be live streamed here at 3:00 pm EDT on Monday, May 11.

Students throughout the region applied to be a part of STEM Signing Day through Tallo, an online platform that connects talent with opportunities. The 30 students who will sign with major colleges and universities on Monday were chosen based on their involvement in STEM education. This year, 70% of the honorees are female, 30% are male, and 70% identify as underrepresented racial minorities. Nine of the students are from Virginia, nine are from Maryland, and twelve are from Washington, D.C.
Education, business, and community leaders from around the region will join Boeing and Tallo in recognizing these students’ talents and drive for success. Interviews with Boeing executives and the students will be available after the event by request.
