WekaIO, the innovation leader in high-performance, scalable file storage for data-intensive applications, today announced the opening of a new office in Washington D.C., along with the appointment of Ted Purnell as Regional Sales Manager. This new presence and key appointments in the District of Columbia (D.C.) are integral to the growth of the company’s leadership and coverage in the federal and government agency industry.
“Now is the perfect time for us to expand our team and open an office in Washington D.C., as many federal agencies, including the Department of Defense (DoD) and various government research labs, are looking to WekaIO for technical leadership in data analytics and high-performance computing,” said Richard Dyke, vice president of sales, WekaIO. “Ted joins the WekaIO team as a seasoned sales leader and his deep experience in the federal space is a valuable asset that will help fuel our growth in this market.”
Ted Purnell joins the organization after having spent many years working with federal agencies on hardware and software implementations for their IT infrastructures. Prior to joining WekaIO, Ted worked for such notable companies as Blue River Information Technology, Riverbed Technology, Moogsoft, and Instart Logic.
The U.S. federal government is one of the biggest producers of data, amassing hundreds of petabytes each year. The data collected is a major driver of the American economy as businesses use this government data to make decisions and integrate it into products and services sold to consumers. High-performance computing (HPC) is of paramount importance to accelerated time-to-discovery, which is a key driver for the acquisition of GPU-enabled services. Legacy storage systems used to support traditional HPC workflows can no longer keep up with the increasing, extreme performance demands. The Weka File System (WekaFS™) is the only file system that can keep GPUs saturated with data, and as such is appropriately lauded as the premier file system for HPC.
WekaIO helps companies manage, scale, and futureproof their data center so they can solve big problems. WekaIO has built the world’s fastest shared and parallel file system on new architecture optimized for NVMe-flash and leapfrogs legacy storage infrastructures by delivering the best performance density at any scale, at a fraction of the cost. With the most flexible deployment models, the WekaFS storage software is a modern file system designed to meet the demands of modern workloads with the most I/O-intensive and extreme technical computing requirements.
