World Wide Technology (WWT), a $12 billion systems integrator helping service providers (SPs) more effectively consume and monetize next-generation technology, and VMware are collaborating with MobiledgeX, QiO, and Altiostar to deliver new MEC solutions for consumption by service providers’ end customers. These solutions will enable SPs to monetize their 4G/5G infrastructure by delivering unique capabilities to their enterprise customers.
MobiledgeX, which is making edge computing widely accessible and easy to consume, is scaling a catalog of enterprise applications across industry vertical and horizontal market categories. These applications, packaged and bundled solely on the MobiledgeX platform, are built on top of an optimized Dell Technologies and VMWare Telco Cloud infrastructure stack, and are being demonstrated in WWT’s Advanced Technology Center (ATC), a one-of-a-kind testing and validation facility equipped with roughly $1 billion in hardware and software. These demonstrations are available via the WWT Platform (WWT.com).
To build new revenue streams on their 4G/5G infrastructure, SPs must create a unique value proposition for specific Enterprise industry verticals like manufacturing, retail and automotive. Through MEC, SPs can deliver industry vertical and horizontal applications to Enterprise customers. Those applications can be delivered at the edge of the SP network or on the customer premises. MEC solutions on the customer premises may utilize Private LTE or 5G networks for connectivity.

Because some MEC-based industry vertical applications will be run on the customer premise, it’s critical SPs can deliver connectivity for enterprise customers through public and/or private 4G and 5G networks governed by business cases requirements. Software-based solutions provide SPs and their enterprise customers with the greatest amount of flexibility in meeting the coverage, latency, and bandwidth needs for specific applications and physical environments. Altiostar’s Open virtualized RAN (Open vRAN) software supports open interfaces and disaggregates the radio hardware from the radio software to deliver that flexibility.
